Hi! I am currently in the last year of midwifery school and am no longer taking doula clients.
Please watch for upcoming information for home birth midwifery.
Thank you! Ann
Point Defiance Birth is located in Ruston Washington, in the shadow of Point Defiance Park. While pregnant, Tacoma native Ann von Moritz, CD(DONA),HCHD, CLC, would walk for miles through the trails finding solace in the trees and a quiet place to work through her hopes and fears for labor, birth, and early parenthood. Ann hopes to bring that same solace and piece of mind to each of her clients - giving them a safe space to talk about what is on their minds and explore all birth and parenting options with the guidance of evidence based knowledge, experience, and intuition.

Quick Facts:
“A birth doula is a companion who supports a birthing person during labor and birth. Birth doulas are trained to provide continuous, one-on-one care, as well as information, physical support, and emotional support to birthing persons and their partners”. Dr. Christine Morton
In 2012 only 6% of women used a doula - Up from 3% in 2006.
“People who received continuous support were more likely to have spontaneous vaginal births and less likely to have any pain medication, epidurals, negative feelings about childbirth, vacuum or forceps-assisted births, and Cesareans. In addition, their labors were shorter by about 40 minutes and their babies were less likely to have low Apgar scores at birth. There is a smaller amount of evidence that doula support in labor can lower postpartum depression in mothers. There is no evidence for negative consequences to continuous labor support. ” - Evidence Based Birth
